Gig Harbor Police Blotter: July 26

The following arrest information was supplied by the Gig Harbor Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Criminal Impersonation/Eluding Police/Reckless Driving/Arrest:

On July 6, a motorcyclist was caught speeding 68 mph in a posted 30 mph speed zone in the 6100 block of 38th Avenue. The officer said a white Mazda was also speeding behind the motorcycle. After reporting the license plate of the Mazda to dispatch, the officer continued to follow the motorcycle. Police said the suspect continued on to the intersection of 38th Avenue and Hunt Street, where he ran a stop sign and passed at least one vehicle while traveling at about 75 mph. Due to the amount of traffic and the speed of the motorcycle, the officer was forced to suspend his pursuit.

At this point, the 18-year-old driver of the Mazda had caught up with the officer. When police pulled him over, the teen presented an expired license and said the motorcyclist was his friend. When the officer said the driver's license was suspended for DUI, the teen looked surprised and handed another license with a different name. The suspect said he found the expired license several days prior at a beach. Police cited the driver for possession of identification of another person and reckless driving.
