Gig Harbor Police Blotter: May 31

The following arrest information was supplied by the Gig Harbor Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Weapons Violation/Drug Paraphernalia: On May 19, police responded to , 5101 Rosedale St., in a reference to a 16-year-old male student who was caught with an "Air-Soft" pellet gun on school property. The security officer also found various drug paraphernalia including a glass pipe, bags containing small quantities of marijuana stems and a grinder in his car. The suspect was released to his mother.

Simple Assault/Domestic Violence/Arrest: On May 22, police responded to a domestic violence incident involving a 17-year-old woman and her mother. According to police, the department has been dispatched to the home several times in the past year. They said the woman assaulted her mother because she was upset at her parents for taking her cellphone away. She was arrested for fourth degree assault.

Vehicle Prowl/Vandalism: On May 24, an unknown suspect(s) smashed the front passenger-side window of a car that was parked overnight in the Gig Harbor High School parking lot. The victim also reported that an iPod Nano, wrist watch, backpack with books and a flash drive and a necklace were missing from the car.

Theft: On May 25, an unknown suspect(s) stole a purse and a jacket from a locker at the . The purse had several credit cards, driver's license, cellphone, keys and sunglasses. The victim later discovered that the debit card had been used at for about $215.

Burglary/Vandalism: Sometime between May 19 and 20, an unknown suspect(s) smashed three windowpanes on the roof of gym. Police also found a portion of rubber gloves at the scene. They estimate $6,000 in damages.

DWLS/Arrest: On May 22, police arrested a 29-year-old woman in the 7100 block of Stinson Avenue. She was issued a citation for driving while license suspended in the third degree.

Simple Assault/Domestic Violence/Arrest: On May 25, police responded to a domestic assault call. They arrested a 31-year-old man for one count of fourth degree assault and three counts of fourth degree assault. Police said the victims and witnesses at the scene said that the man was intoxicated and became belligerent.

DWLS/Arrest: On May 20, police arrested a 51-year-old woman in the 5900 block of Soundview Drive. She was issued a citation for driving while license suspended in the third degree.

Harassment/Provoking Assault/Arrest: On May 21, police responded to a harassment call in the 4900 block of Pt. Fosdick Drive. They arrested a 34-year-old man with prior history of trespassing and disruptive behavior. According to police, witnesses said that the suspect threw beer and rocks at the cars from the bus shelter. The man was cited for provoking assault and threats and was booked into the Pierce County Jail.

DWLS/Arrest: On May 22, police arrested a 21-year-old man in the 9600 block of Bujacich Road NW. He was issued a citation for driving while license suspended in the third degree and a verbal warning for inoperable taillights.

Traffic Offense/Eluding Police/Warrant/Arrest: On May 21, an off-duty officer who was returning home spotted a pickup truck in the 12200 block of Key Peninsula Hwy N southbound speeding above the posted 45 mph speed limit. The truck initially pulled over after seeing the LED police lights but quickly got back on the road and sped up.

The officer pursued the driver at 75 mph toward Key Center. The driver slowed down and got off the roadway near where his car engine blew.

The suspect climbed over to the passenger side, bailed out of the truck while the vehicle was still moving and dashed toward the park. The police pursued the suspect on foot and eventually caught up with the driver.

During the chase, the coaches at the near by baseball fields ordered the kids into lockdown in the dugouts until the suspect was taken into custody.

According to police, the records indicated that the 44-year-old male suspect was a convicted felon with a suspended license in the second degree for second offense DUI with an ignition interlock requirement. He also had a misdemeanor DUI through the Tacoma Municipal Court.

The truck was registered to another man with DWLS in the third degree and a misdemeanor warrant.

The suspect said he bought the truck from the man prior to the traffic stop.

The man was charged with attempting to elude, second degree DWLS, failing to install an ignition interlock device, failing to obey and a DUI warrant with a $5,000 cash bail.

The police also issued an E-citation for driving with an open container of alcohol in the vehicle, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, failing to wear a seatbelt, a defective taillight, failing to provide a vehicle registration and possession of a suspended license. 

The suspect was booked in the Pierce County Jail.
