Gig Harbor Police Target Kids with 'Safe Rider Citations'

Beginning June, GHPD will be issuing citations (coupons) for a free reduced-fat vanilla ice cream cone that can be redeemed at local McDonalds.

Starting this month, Gig Harbor’s police officers will in our community.

Uniformed officers will be watching for younger children who are practicing safe bicycling habits. Kids may be stopped and given a coupon in an effort to encourage safe bicycling habits such as wearing helmets, riding safely and obeying safety rules.

The officers will be issuing citations (coupons) for a free reduced-fat vanilla ice cream cone that can be redeemed at either of the two the local Gig Harbor area McDonald’s: or .

The program is in partnership with Safe Kids Pierce County and Gig Harbor McDonald's Restaurants. The initiative will continue through the end of the year.
