Gig Harbor Police Reports: Stolen Kayaks, Elusive Drivers, Speed-Bump Vandals

June 4 

8 p.m. – A homeowner claimed he had been the target of vandals over the past few years, the latest incident occurring the previous evening in which somewhat had apparently used a flame to melt the bumper and grille on his SUV in his driveway.

8 p.m. – A customer at the Galaxy Theatres reported that someone had slashed the tires of his vehicle while he was inside the theater.

June 5

8 a.m. – An officer was dispatched to Seven Seas Brewery, where someone had had damaged five rubber speed bumps that were recently installed along the drive access near the rear of the building.  Someone had apparently used a large pry bar or something similar to pull the rubber speed bumps up from the pavement, which damaged the nails holding it down.

 

June 7

10 a.m. – A property owner reported that a yellow lab that he did not own was on his property was harassing him and people who were providing gardening and contract services to the property.

 

June 8 

5:10 p.m. – Police responded to a report of a suspect at the Kohl’s on Point Fosdick who entered the dressing room with two men’s dress shirts and left with one.

 

June 10

8:44 a.m. – An officer who was parked near the Home Depot on Borgen Boulevard saw a small, blue, four-door sedan cutting people off in the road. The officer gave chase and tried to pull the car over, but the driver sped off onto Canterwood, reaching speeds around 60 miles per hour in a 30-mph zone. The driver then pulled into the dead-end parking lot of St. Anthony Hospital, where hejumped out of the car as it was still rolling.

The suspect tried to hide in the bushes, and the officer drew his weapon. The suspect then dashed across Canterwood toward a drainage pond. The suspect climbed through the woods onto State Route 16, where he ran across the highway, through the median and onto the eastbound lane of traffic. He climbed the fence on the other side of the highway, ran through some businesses and homes and eventually into a drainage ditch, where he was trying to hide himself among the tall grass. Officers arrested him on suspicion of a number of charges.

5:47 p.m. – Authorities arrived at Kohls on Point Fosdick for a report of two teen-age shoplifters. The two males allegedly tried to steal men’s watches, and officers found knives on each of them. Both were cited for third-degree theft.

6:04 p.m. – Police received a report that two women stole alcohol from Walgreens on Borgen Boulevard and fled the area in a green Ford Taurus.

 

June 12

2:40 p.m. - Police responded to a report that someone had broken into a construction storage trailer in the 11400 block of Hudson Lane and stole $500 worth of equipment.

June 16 

10 a.m. – Police arrested a man who had apparently stolen two kayaks from another man and sold them.  Someone spotted one of the kayaks a day earlier on a car and, after speaking to the driver, authorities determined that the suspect had sold them the stolen kayaks.

The next day, the father of the suspect called police, letting them know his son was at home. Police arrived, arrested the suspect and found almost $2,800 on him.
