Help Send Gig Harbor Kids Go Holiday Shopping With Local Cops

The Jaycox Gig Harbor Police Benevolent Fund is currently accepting donations for its annual Holiday Helpers event in December.

The Jaycox Gig Harbor Police Benevolent Fund will hold its annual Holiday Helpers event on Tuesday, Dec. 11.

This non-profit event allows local children in need the opportunity to get to know the Gig Harbor Police officers, Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies and Washington State Patrol troopers while Christmas shopping at the Gig Harbor Target store.

Each child is provided spending money donated by community members and local service clubs including funding from the Jaycox Gig Harbor Police Benevolent Fund.  In addition, the children get a tour of the Police Department and breakfast (provided by Kelly’s Café & Espresso) with their Law Enforcement shopping buddies. The Gig Harbor Kiwanis Club will be donating lunch this year. At the end of the experience the children are returned to school in a police vehicle.

Major local sponsors include Target and Galaxy Theatre.

Children between the ages of 7 and 11 are chosen based on social and economic need. This year at least ten children will participate.

Donations are still needed to make this program a success.  If you would like to assist, donations are being accepted at the Gig Harbor Police Department.  One hundred percent of all donations go to the kids for their shopping.

To donate, checks can be dropped off at the Gig Harbor Police Department or mailed to GHPD, 3510 Grandview Street, Gig Harbor WA, 98335. Please make the check out to The Jaycox Fund.

For more information, call the GHPD at 253-851-2236.
