Local Driver Killed After Crashing into a Tree

Speed was a "big factor" in the crash, the State Patrol says.

A Gig Harbor man is dead after he crashed into a tree Sunday morning on Key Peninsula.

According to the Washington State Patrol Twitter page, speeding was a "big factor" in the single-car collision on state Route 302 at 118th Avenue Northwest.

The 29-year-old man, identified as Michael J. Iverson, was driving westbound on SR-302 around 5 a.m. when he left the road and struck a tree.

Officials have yet to determine if alcohol and/or drugs were involved in the accident.
