Loiland to Come Home for a Short Visit

Gig Harbor resident and South King County firefighter, Wynn Loiland, is now reading and writing, according to his wife. Loiland was critically injured while responding to a car crash in November.

Wynn Loiland's wife, Sue, posted the following message on the CaringBridge website on Saturday morning.

UPDATED: Jan. 28, 10:48 a.m.

Wynn had a good week. Wednesday Wynn, Jeff, Jeff and I went to Harborview for follow-up visits with his specialists. They were very pleased with what they saw. Wynn's bones are healing nicely and it doesn't seem likely that he'll need to have any surgeries. Yeah!

Wynn tolerated this excursion extremely well. As you can imagine, a big clinic like Harborview can test anyone's patience and Wynn remained calm all day. I think what he enjoyed the most was driving in his truck and joking with his buddies.

Wynn is definitely becoming more aware. He is starting to recognize that he's confused and he's aware when he becomes anxious. All of that is good. He is also progressing well cognitively. His attention and focus have increased, he's reading and writing. He's now on a regular diet. With each challenge that presented he is re-learning more and more. Yesterday he commented that things were "hopeful." And I would have to agree.

In preparation for Wynn's eventual discharge, he gets to come home for a short visit Sunday. We are keeping things small so he doesn't get overwhelmed. This will be a good test to see how he does. I think he's really going to love it!

As you know, his visitation has been extremely limited. Only family and very close friends have been able to come see him due to his agitation. He still has agitation so the limited visitation continues. Thank you for understanding. Obviously he wont' be at the hospital on Sunday for visits.

Thank you for all of your wonderful positive thoughts and prayers.

Warmly,
Sue
