Pierce County Sheriff Department Blotter: Jan. 11-18

A thief broke into a car that was parked on the road during the snow storm, and a sheriff's deputy chased two suspects involved in an armed robbery.

On Jan. 12, the responded to a disturbance call at a home in the 2500 block of 54th Street NW where two men were arguing at the home. The suspect lived at the residence, but the other was visiting his girlfriend who was the sister of the suspect. According to the victim, he pushed the suspect, who later brought out a crowbars and struck the victim at least once on his left forearm. There were also two marks on the wall from the altercation. The victim had a lump on his arm but declined medical aid. The suspect had left the home before officials arrived.

On Jan. 12, a car was traveling westbound in the 4600 block of 56th Street NW. There were also two cars behind him. When he slowed down for traffic, the third car failed to slow down and collided into the car in front of him, causing that car to crash into the first car. The second car in the middle of the accident had to be towed from the scene. Officials took the driver to St. Anthony's Hospital for a possible neck injury.

On Jan. 13, a deputy, along with several other officers and other deputies, responded to an armed robbery at on Judson Street. Witnesses described the suspects as two men who drove off in a light blue Nissan two-door passenger car. The deputy drove up to 144th Street and Peacock Hill Avenue and continued west onto 144th. He saw a small passenger car pull out of 41st Avenue Court NW and headed east on 144th. The deputy turned around and pursued the vehicle, which skipped several stop signs. Finally, at the intersection of SE Walnut Road and Bandix Road SE, the car lost control and crashed into a ditch. The 24-year-old white male driver fled on foot, but gave up and returned to the site where he and the 32-year-old white male passenger were taken into custody. The driver was later arrested for felony eluding and resisting arrest. The passenger was released because he was only hitchhiking and didn't even know the driver.

Sometime between Jan. 12 and 14, the owner of a vacant rental home in the 10000 block of 70th Avenue NW said someone broke in and stole his new dishwasher. The victim told the deputy that he thinks the same suspects had burglarized his home on Jan. 10. The deputy noted that the suspect entered the same way as the first incident by breaking a small window in the back of the house. In addition to the dishwasher, the crooks also took a clothes dryer from the garage.

Sometime on Saturday, Jan. 15, a deputy responded to a home in the 4000 block of 10th Street NW for a burglary. The resident said the suspects took several items from an unsecured basement. The missing items were estimated to be about $8,000 in total.

Sometime between Jan. 11 and Jan. 12, the victim left his car on 96th Street NW because he was unable to drive home due to the snow. When he came back to the car next morning, he found his sunglasses snapped in half outside the vehicle. He also noticed that his Garmin GPS, Nikon digital camera and Apple iPod were missing. The suspect also ripped out the dome light and destroyed the center console. The deputy noted that the lock on the door was also punched out.
