Witnesses Sought in Two Freeway Shootings on Sunday in Pierce County

Two cars were shot multiple times on I-5 and SR 16 on Sunday morning, according to the Washington State Patrol. There were no injuries and investigators are not sure if the two shootings are related.

The Washington State Patrol is seeking witnesses to two shootings on Interstate 5 and State Route 16 near the Tacoma Narrows Bridge that left two cars riddled with bullets early Sunday morning.

At approximately 4:15 a.m. on Jan. 20, a minivan was struck with bullets while driving eastbound on SR 16 between the Narrows Bridge and Jackson Ave. The driver was uninjured, according to WSP District 1 spokesman Guy Gill.

At 4:45 a.m., a full-sized sedan was struck with multiple bullets while driving northbound on Interstate 5 between 56th St. and 38th St. The driver of that vehicle was not struck or injured.

“We need to find any possible witnesses that may have seen anything out of the ordinary this morning on SR-16 and I-5 around the time of these incidents,” said Gill. “This includes any pedestrians, vehicles parked on the shoulder, odd noises (possibly gun shots), or anything else that someone may have seen.”

At this point, investigators are unsure if the two shootings were related.

If you saw anything suspicious on the roads early Sunday morning, contact Washington State Patrol Detective Vic Mauro at 253-538-3176.

I drove my mini van over the bridge about 45 minutes later.

Wow... That's so crazy.

It is obvious that we need gun control.

Is it possible that the two vehicles were targeted because of their bad driving habits? I periodically drive these two roads, and my experience is that there are some horrible drivers out there. It would make perfect sense to find out these attacks are retaliatory because the two supposed victims were behaving badly. All too often, we cause the problems we face. Like the trade towers, Rumsfeld and his cronies should not have pissed off Al Quada. This does not justify what the terrorists did but does explain how the chose their targets. It also explains how cop killers choose their targets. It explains how minorities retaliate against Seattle cops (though they do it with US Department of Justice complaints instead of the violence the cops use). And it explains how the US chose their targets in going after the terrorists. Live by the sword, die by the sword, cannot argue with the logic. Back in West Virginia, we understand eye for an eye leaves everyone blind. If people stop being jerks, the violence will drop to a bare minimum (allowing for just plain deranged lunatics). Until we hold the instigators responsible for their actions instead of their victims who retaliate, we will never cure the disease.

Lance, good luck with that !

Right on Lance, that explains why some moron shot up some cars, you seem very educated!
Lance Orloff January 23, 2013 at 02:37 am
There will always be morons. There will always be guns in spite of any laws to the contrary. Any educated person will know that terrorists only attack in retaliation for some real or imagined slight. An educated person will understand that the "morons" are responding to some hurt done to them. "a-hill" you do not sound very educated. It is only an educated guess that the freeway shootings were retaliatory against the two "victims". The alternative is that they were retaliating from some previous slight related to the freeways. In either case, the shooter probably picked his targets for a reason even if the specific victims were not the specific instigators. And yes, I am very educated, and world experienced, and I don't hide behind vague names that sound inappropriate.

Well I work early morning hours & traveled that same route just an hour later in a minivan & i find it hard to believe that in the thick fog in the dark that the idiot with the gun could really differentiate between one vehicle & another.

The boat is heading toward the Tacoma side of the bridge. Gig Harbor is well astern. If the tideRead More is going out, and the boat maintains its heading, it will wind up at Sunset Beach off to the left of the picture.

Ugh. That's not good, Starla. How many times a week do you and husband cross, or at least try toRead More cross that crosswalk.
Brooke Judge June 13, 2013 at 10:07 am
I have seen orange flags (like the kind you use on the boat with a water skier) used at crosswalksRead More in Redmond. Perhaps putting a PVC pipe in the ground on either side of the road or attached to the nearby sign posts with a few flags inside for you to hold out/carry to the other side when you're crossing would be helpful?
Starla Storset June 15, 2013 at 11:10 am
Brent, we cross it about at least once a week.
