Witnesses Sought in Two Freeway Shootings on Sunday in Pierce County

Two cars were shot multiple times on I-5 and SR 16 on Sunday morning, according to the Washington State Patrol. There were no injuries and investigators are not sure if the two shootings are related.

The Washington State Patrol is seeking witnesses to two shootings on Interstate 5 and State Route 16 near the Tacoma Narrows Bridge that left two cars riddled with bullets early Sunday morning.

At approximately 4:15 a.m. on Jan. 20, a minivan was struck with bullets while driving eastbound on SR 16 between the Narrows Bridge and Jackson Ave. The driver was uninjured, according to WSP District 1 spokesman Guy Gill.

At 4:45 a.m., a full-sized sedan was struck with multiple bullets while driving northbound on Interstate 5 between 56th St. and 38th St. The driver of that vehicle was not struck or injured.

“We need to find any possible witnesses that may have seen anything out of the ordinary this morning on SR-16 and I-5 around the time of these incidents,” said Gill. “This includes any pedestrians, vehicles parked on the shoulder, odd noises (possibly gun shots), or anything else that someone may have seen.”

At this point, investigators are unsure if the two shootings were related.
