Wynn Loiland to Come Home Next Friday

A South King County firefighter and Gig Harbor resident, Wynn Loiland, is recovering after he was critically injured on Nov. 20 while responding to a car crash.

Wynn Loiland, a 52-year-old South King County firefighter and Gig Harbor resident, was critically injured on Nov. 20 when he was hit by a passing car while responding to a car crash on I-5. He suffered life-threatening head and facial injuries, a collapsed lung and broken arm, and was in a coma until just around Christmas, according to the CaringBridge site.

On Friday, Feb. 24, Loiland's wife, Sue, posted the following message on the CaringBridge website.

Wynn has a discharge date! He will return home on March 9th. While he received this news with great joy and releif (he (was) beginning to wonder if the day would ever come), he is having difficulty waiting out his remaining time. He will continue all of his therapies on an out patient basis since he still has a very long way to go to full recovery. It's my belief he will make some big improvement once he's in his own familiar environment.

Wynn's had a few outings in preparation for his release and he's handling them very well. He gets to come home for several hours this Sunday so he can watch the Daytona 500 in his own chair. Of course, getting him back to the hospital may be an impossible task.

Keep us in your prayers as we work on this important transition.
