Court Administrator Resigns to Take Job In Chelan County

Court Administrator for the City of Gig Harbor Paul Nelson announced his resignation to become the court administrator for Chelan County District Court.

Court Administrator Paul Nelson announced his resignation today to become the court administrator for Chelan County District Court in Wenatchee. 

According to the city, Nelson has been with the City of Gig Harbor for 15 years, beginning his career as Court Clerk/Probation Officer. He became the Court Administrator in 2000.

"Paul will be sorely missed by the City of Gig Harbor. We wish him all the best," said Judge Michael Dunn.

During his tenure in Gig Harbor, Nelson was instrumental in installing Pierce County’s first domestic violence kiosk where domestic violence victims can quickly access court protection orders and other assistance, according to city officials. The kiosk is the first of its kind in the nation, initiating a paperless court process.

"Paul has been a strong influence for good, both in this organization and the City as a whole. I admire his passion for ensuring our City’s Court is a fair forum for victims and the accused to access justice," said City Administrator Rob Karlinsey. "I am really going to miss him, and I know he will do a great job for Chelan County."

Nelson, who has 20 years of experience in the court system, said he has mixed emotions regard his move to Chelan County. 

"After 15 years, I'm sad to leave Gig Harbor. It's been the best community that I've been a part of," he said. "But I'm excited for the new opportunities, professionally, and the personal enjoyment to live in Wenatchee."

His last day at the will be May 20. Nelson said his official first day at Chelan County District Court will be on May 23.

Further announcement will be forthcoming on the process to fill the City of Gig Harbor Court Administrator position.
