Gig Harbor Planning Commission Public Hearing

The Gig Harbor Planning Commission will be hosting a Public Hearing on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.

The City of Gig Harbor has applied for an urban growth area (UGA) amendment to expand the City of Gig Harbor UGA to include the entirety of Gig Harbor Bay. No land upland of the ordinary high water mark would be added to the UGA. A companion amendment is being processed by Pierce County.

The current UGA boundary follows the ordinary high water mark, leaving the waters of the bay a rural designation, except where annexed to the city. The City proposes moving the UGA boundary to the entrance of the bay so that future annexations of the waters and tidelands could occur. With the current boundary if the uplands of East Gig harbor Bay annexed to the City, waterfront owners would permit their home through the city and their dock through the County. This amendment would rectify this potential problem.
