Expo Center Hosts Construction Safety Day Wednesday

Construction workers and managers are invited to check out workshops on a variety of safety topics as well as demonstrations of innovative tools for use while on the job.

Calling all those working in the construction field! It's not too late to sign up for this year's Construction Safety Day, an event created to promote safety in the construction industry, which takes place Wednesday, May 4 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the .

Worksite safety for home renovation crews and the hazards of confined spaces are among the topics to be covered at this event, going on its fourth year.  In addition to demonstrations on forklift safety, fall protection, and a ‘vibration station’ where attendees can wear gloves that measure the vibration of handheld tools while drilling on concrete blocks, this year’s Construction Safety Day will offer workshops for supervisors and workers on:

  • The state’s Dig Law
  • Fire extinguisher training
  • Tool safety
  • Confined space management
  • Renovation safety

Despite improvements in equipment and training, construction remains a hazardous occupation. Last year, seven workers died in Washington state due to construction-related accidents, according to a press release from the Department of Labor & Industries.
