Gig Harbor To Consider Chipping In $10,000 For Summer Trolley Program

As one of the four community partners in the pilot program, the money will get it running so officials can decide whether it's worth making permanent.

On Monday, the Gig Harbor City Council will consider spending $10,000 for a pilot program that will bring trolley service to the Harbor.

Pierce Transit announced last week that it would run a pilot program from July 9 to Sept. 28.

The service will offer trips every 30 minutes beginning at 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, with extended service to 9:30 pm on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

It will connect the historic Downtown Gig Harbor area to the Uptown shopping area.

The estimated cost to operate the program is $257,257, and the four community partners in the program - the city, the businesses of Uptown, the Gig Harbor Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Waterfront Alliance - are being asked to contribute a total of $41,161.

Monday's meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., at the Gig Harbor Civic Center, 3510 Grandview Street.
