Jan Angel To Challenge For 26th District Senator

Jan Angel, the Port Orchard Republican and 26th District legislator, will challenge for the district's senator position.

Angel will run against Nathan Schlicher, the Gig Harbor Democrat who was appointed to the position last year after Derek Kilmer was elected to Congress.

According to Angel's campaign, she has sponsored several pieces of legislation focused on stimulating small business and encouraging job growth throughout her career.

“With so many people struggling in this tough economy, my focus has been and will continue to be finding ways to protect and advance job growth in our district,” said Angel.

The Washington legislature is currently in special session with most members anticipating an agreement on a budget plan negotiated between the Senate Majority Coalition, the Governor, and House Democrats. The bi-partisan Senate Coalition is fighting the new tax increases proposed by the Governor and Speaker Frank Chopp.

Angel said she supports the bi-partisan Senate Coalition stance against new tax increases.

“We don’t need new taxes, we need responsible spending and new priorities insuring we protect people in need, while we find new ways to free small businesses from unnecessary government intrusion that inhibits job growth.” she said.
