Letter to the Editor: Rep. Seaquist Seeks Public Input During Legislative Session

As state lawmakers start their third week of legislative session in Olympia, Rep. Larry Seaquist asks for input from Gig Harbor residents.

Dear Neighbors,

We have just begun the third week of the legislative session.

As Chair of the House Higher Education Committee, my primary focus is on keeping the doors of our colleges and universities as wide open as possible. We have tens of thousands of high tech jobs open today in our state. A strong higher education system is vital to prepare more people for these well-paid jobs and careers. I’m working with our higher education institutions to increase degree production to fill those jobs.

This brings us to the budget. I continue to work on balancing our budget and aligning state spending with revenues in my role on the Education Appropriations and Ways & Means Committees. My colleagues and I are in daily negotiations about the budget. I want to make sure that the decisions we make reflect our values and protect our future, but also streamline government and make it operate more efficiently.

Your input is invaluable as we move forward with this process. Thank you to all of you who have already contacted me this session and shared your priorities. For those that haven’t, I’d like to take this opportunity to remind you of all of the different ways that you can stay connected with my work in the legislature. Continue reading for details on how to connect with me and how to join the telephone town hall happening tomorrow evening.
