PHOTOS: Sumner Welcomes Home JBLM's 17th Fires Brigade

The 17th Fires Brigade, based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, was warmly welcomed home from Afghanistan at a party hosted by the Old Cannery Furniture Warehouse in Sumner.

When it comes to saying "thank you," sometimes nothing works quite as well as an old-fashioned barbeque.

On Thus. Nov. 1, members of the Sumner and Puyallup communities mingled with JBLM family and friends to welcome home the 1-377 Gunslingers from the 17th Fires Brigade, recently stationed in Afghanistan but now back home at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

The 17 Fires Welcome Home Dinner was hosted by the Puyallup/Sumner subchapter of the Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA) and The Old Cannery Furniture Warehouse. About 270 people gathered together, enjoyed a meal, had their photos taken, listened to tunes from the Sumner High School Jazz Band and kicked back in the recliners, couches and chairs on the Old Cannery salesfloor.

Sumner has "adopted" the 17th Fires Brigade through the local AUSA chapter. Members of the 17th Fires joined Sumner at the Art & Rhubarb Pie Festival earlier this year to show off their war equipment and connect with citizens.
