Pierce County To Hold Workshops On Making Your Home Barrier-Free

The county is holding three workshops over the next month in which residents can learn how to remodel their homes.

Your home is your castle. But will you be able to stay in your castle?

"What's In Your House?" will share remodeling tips to get around those everyday barriers before they become obstacles.

"Home is where we plant roots for the long term," said Aaron Van Valkenburg, manager of Pierce County Aging and Long Term Care. "But that also means giving some forethought to what we can do to make sure our home can serve our needs. Aging at home doesn't just happen. It's the result of good planning."

"The workshop will look at examples of how a home can easily become barrier-free. Each room will be studied: entrances, living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms, stairs and more. Practical solutions will be suggested to make staying at home a sound choice.

The workshop is free and open to the public. It will be repeated three times:
