Planning Commission Seeks Public Comment on Waterfront Building Heights, Front Setbacks

The Planning Commission is considering recommending code amendments regarding residential building height and front setbacks along the waterside of Harborview and North Harborview Drives. Deadline to submit comments is April 11.

Notice is hereby given that the City of Gig Harbor Planning Commission is holding a public hearing to solicit community feedback on the City-sponsored zoning code text amendments described below. You are invited to provide comment to the Commission at the hearing or in writing as outlined at the bottom of this notice.

Downtown Residential Building Height and Front Setback Amendments:

The Planning Commission is considering recommending code amendments regarding the measurement of residential building height and front setbacks along the waterside of Harborview and North Harborview Drives. Under the Commission’s initial proposal, the 18-foot uphill height limit for residential buildings would move from the building setback line to the property line abutting the street ROW. The second proposal reduces front yard setbacks to more closely reflect existing setbacks of historic homes.

All persons will have an opportunity to present their oral comments at the public hearing. Those wishing to submit written comments may do so at the hearing or by submitting them to the Planning Commission via the Planning Department at the address below, or by e-mail at sehmell@cityofgigharbor.net or by facsimile at (253) 858- 6408. All written comments must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2013.

Information on the proposed amendments is available for public review Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, at the Planning Department, located at 3510 Grandview Street in Gig Harbor, 253-851-6170.
