Public Forum on Legal Pot Set for Feb. 21 in Tacoma

The meeting was originally scheduled to take place in Olympia but has since been moved to the Tacoma Convention and Trade Center. There's also a March 7 meeting in Bremerton.

Gig Harbor residents will have two opportunities nearby to voice their thoughts on legalized pot in the coming months.

A public forum on our state's legalization of marijuana will take place in Tacoma on Feb. 21.

The Washington Liquor Control Board announced Thursday it was moving the meeting, originally located in Olympia, to the Tacoma Convention and Trade Center so residents from the South Sound region can attend a single forum.

The meeting is one in a series of forums where the public can comment on how the state ought to implement I-502, the voter-approved initiative that . 

There will be another meeting March 7 at the Kitsap Convention Center, 100 Washington Ave, Bremerton.

Last month, to weigh in on topics ranging from the price of legal marijuana to how many producer licenses the state will issue. By Dec. 1, 2013, the state must implement a new structure for growing, selling, taxing and regulating marijuana for use by people 21 and older.

The Feb. 21 event begins at 6 p.m. in room 315 at 1500 Broadway in Tacoma. Here is a schedule from the liquor control board:

  • 6 to 7 p.m.: Open house with board and staff
  • 7 to 7:05 p.m.: Board welcome
  • 7:05 to 7:15 p.m.: Overview of board’s role in implementation and timeline
  • 7:15 to 10 p.m.: Public testimony

I have seen orange flags (like the kind you use on the boat with a water skier) used at crosswalksRead More in Redmond. Perhaps putting a PVC pipe in the ground on either side of the road or attached to the nearby sign posts with a few flags inside for you to hold out/carry to the other side when you're crossing would be helpful?
