Repairing State Route 16 Overpass Could Reportedly Cost $1 Million

A truck struck the overpass in Gig Harbor last month. The News Tribune that a similar incident occurred in 2011.

The cost to repair the State Route 16 overpass at Olympic Drive could reportedly be around $1 million.

The News Tribune's Rob Carson reports that "a concrete girder spanning the westbound lanes of state Route 16 was so badly damaged in the crash that it will have to be replaced."

A similar incident occurred in 2011, and the 10-week construction project in 2012 to repair the damages cost a little more than $1 million, all of which was covered by private insurance, according to the report.

On March 17, a semitruck that was too tall struck the overpass, closing down the overpass for hours and backing up traffic while engineers examined the damage.
