VIDEO: Derek Kilmer Discusses Why 'Reckless' Sequestration Cuts Will Hurt Locally

The Congressman from Gig Harbor discussed sequestration on a segment of KBTC's "Northwest Now" show.

Even with the deadline to avoid sequestration days away, at least one local lawmaker is still pushing for a deal to help avoid across-the-board cuts.

Freshman Congressman Derek Kilmer, D-WA, recently appeared on a segment of the KBTC show, "Northwest Now."

Kilmer, along with a host of other South Sound lawmakers, are pushing Congress to negotiate a deal that would avoid across-the-board spending cuts March 1. Of particular interest to Kilmer is the effect on Naval Base Kitsap, Joint Base Lewis-McChord and other local military that would be directly affected by the cuts.

Mr. Kilmer....You don't agree with the president? The sequestration was O'bama's idea. Dont you agree with your own party leader?

Good grief, comgressman. It's only a "cut" of three cents of every dolloar of INCREASE. This country is in serious trouble if it can't cut three cents out of its INCREASED spending for next year. Now do your job, or get out of the way and let someone else give it a try.

Wreckless spending hurts much much more....the key word is entitlements. Enough already. Stop campaigning and start acting like a president.... meet and talk congress. Grow Up !!!!!

Ugh. That's not good, Starla. How many times a week do you and husband cross, or at least try toRead More cross that crosswalk.

I have seen orange flags (like the kind you use on the boat with a water skier) used at crosswalksRead More in Redmond. Perhaps putting a PVC pipe in the ground on either side of the road or attached to the nearby sign posts with a few flags inside for you to hold out/carry to the other side when you're crossing would be helpful?

Brent, we cross it about at least once a week.
