Where Should Marijuana Producers, Retailers Be Allowed in Gig Harbor?

The City's Planning Commission will be holding a public hearing on Thursday to consider code amendments regarding marijuana related uses in Gig Harbor.

The public can provide comment to the Commission at the hearing or in writing.

Marijuana Related Uses: 

The Planning Commission is considering recommending code amendments regarding the establishment of medical and recreational marijuana businesses, as allowed under state law, within the Employment District (ED), Business Commercial (C-1), General Business (B-2) zones.

Under the Commission’s initial proposal, recreational production and processing, as well as medical collective gardens would only be allowed in the ED zone, after meeting state and local requirements. Additionally, recreational marijuana retailers, as allowed under state law, would only be able to locate in the C-1 and B-2 zones of the city, after meeting state and local requirements. 

All persons will have an opportunity to present their oral comments at the public hearing. Those wishing to submit written comments may do so at the hearing or by submitting them to the Planning Commission via the Planning Department at the 

address below, or by e-mail at sehmell@cityofgigharbor.net or by fax at 253-858-6408. All written comments must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013.

Information on the proposed amendments is available for public review Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Planning Department, located at 3510 Grandview Street in Gig Harbor, 253-851-6170.
