Oh Orchids, How I Love Thee!

My happy addition of orchids in the home.

I have a great appreciation for flowers. I admire them greatly. Yet when I take various ones home (not all), they slowly but surely start looking lackluster. Maybe its the soil or the lack of fertilizer, but sometimes I feel like my green thumb turns black!

I have talked to various other flowerphiles who deal with this. Some have a great gift for growing plants...me, not so much. But when I do find a plant that is worry free, I rejoice.

Now you may think that orchids are hardly worry free. After all, they look so delicate; they are so "otherworldly"...tropical, growing anywhere but here. Yet, they require hardly any water and are happy if you fertilize them every few months, and even like the pot they came in until they outgrow it, which is not quickly.

So, overall, orchids basically take care of themselves! That's the type of plant for me!!! Orchids also are annual and will come back and bless you with more blooms! I'm glad I found out how nice they are to have around the house. Another plus is my cat has no desire to try it. He's content with his daily dose of wheatgrass. So, here's to orchids, they are not just for corsages anymore!!
