PSD Selects Decatur High Principal to Lead Gig Harbor

Tom Leacy, who graduated from Peninsula High School, will be recommended to replace Principal Ted Strong. Leacy is currently the principal at Decatur High School in Federal Way.

students will be greeted by a new principal when they return in the fall. Tom Leacy will be recommended to fill the post of Gig Harbor High School principal at the Peninsula School Board meeting on June 21.

If approved, Leacy will replace

Leacy comes to Gig Harbor after spending nine years as principal of Decatur High School in the Federal Way School District. Prior to that, he served as an assistant principal at Decatur for three years and spent 16 years in the Tacoma School District as a special education teacher, performing the additional duties of athletic director for five of those years.

Leacy, who is a graduate and lives in Gig Harbor, was selected as the recommended candidate after an initial round of interviews, site visits to his school and to the school of another finalist, and final interviews with District administrators.

His supervisors in Federal Way describe him as someone who has high expectations for students, staff members and for himself. They have been impressed by his ability to develop and cultivate effective relationships with students, parents, staff members and community stakeholders. His experience and leadership style will be a good fit for taking Gig Harbor High School forward.

Also new to the District will be the Assistant Principal at . Andrea Bowman will replace Tyrone Robuck, who was selected earlier this spring to be the principal at . Bowman comes to KPMS from Hawkins Middle School in the North Mason School District where she has worked for 15 years, the last six years as the assistant principal. 

Two PSD elementary schools will also be under new leadership as principal, Kathy Weymiller and principal, Jacque Crisman will be switching assignments. Both of these schools have enjoyed 12 years under the leadership of their current administrators. 

According to Deputy Superintendent Chuck Cuzzetto, Strong is expected to return to work on July 2, 2012, and will be reassigned to the Educational Service Center to help with the implementation of the new teacher and principal evaluation tools, emergency management, career and technical programs and human resource functions.
