UPDATED: School Board to Interview Position 4 Finalists on Nov. 29

The candidates for the Peninsula School District Board of Directors include Harlan Gallinger, Jessica Sawyer, Steve Sutton and Carrie Tellefson. They are all residents of Gig Harbor's 4th District.

Updated: Nov. 16, 12:07 p.m.

The Peninsula School District Board of Directors will hold a Special Board Meeting on Thursday, Nov. 29, at 5:30 p.m. to interview the finalists for School Board Position 4.

The meeting will be held at the District Office, Conference Room 1. Public is invited to attend.

The Board will adjourn to executive session to discuss qualifications of candidates. Action may be taken following the executive session.

The seat was vacated after Board President Jill Uddenberg announced her resignation in September.

The finalists are Harlan Gallinger, Jessica Sawyer, Steve Sutton and Carrie Tellefson.

The district posted the vacancy in October after its Board of Directors officially accepted former Board President Jill Uddenberg’s resignation.

According to Acting Superintendent Chuck Cuzzetto, the school board interviewed all 13 candidates at a public meeting on Nov. 7.

“The board members asked all of the candidates the same questions,” said Cuzzetto.

“Then we went into an executive session to talk about the qualifications of each of the candidates. It was based on the letters of interest we’ve received and the answers to the interview questions.”

Following the executive session, Cuzzetto said the four board members talked about their preferred criteria, which included involvement and commitment to the schools and the candidates’ complimentary skills.  At the end of the meeting, one of the board members made a motion to narrow down to four candidates.

At the Nov. 29 Special Meeting, the four candidates will return for their second round of interview questions, which the board members will be providing. However, Cuzzetto said community members are welcome to attend and listen to the candidates’ responses.

“I was really impressed with the number of candidates who applied and their dedication and support,” Cuzzetto said. “How people care about our school district and want to make it even better…that’s what came through in our interviews.”

Cuzzetto said he hopes the board will make a selection at the end of the meeting.
