VIEWFINDER: Crossing the Strait of Juan de Fuca for Chron's and Colitis

Gig Harbor's Chance Busey conquered his challenge on Friday as he sailed across the Strait of Juan de Fuca to raise money for Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.

Gig Harbor teen Chance Busey finished his quest to sail across the Strait of Juan de Fuca on Friday, March 23.

The project was to raise money and awareness for Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. The senior at was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in September 2007 when he was just 13 years old.

Busey, accompanied by his family and friends, sailed out from Port Angeles just after 7:30 a.m.

Despite a slow start with very little wind, Busey was able to safely complete his 22-mile feat and arrive in Victoria, BC at 5:09 p.m.

“The crossing yesterday was intense! Nobody ever thought conditions would be like that ESPECIALLY me! Thank you again for all the wonderful support from everyone! Even though my senior project is over, these diseases still exist. Please continue to raise awareness about the diseases and the CCFA's effort to rid the world of them,” Busey wrote on his Facebook page Saturday.
