Boys Lacrosse: Garfield Drops Harbor Fire; Bulldogs Advance to Quarterfinals

GIG HARBOR -- Garfield advanced to the quarterfinals of the Washington Lacrosse Boys State Championship tournament with a 17 - 7 opening round win over Harbor Fire, Saturday at .

The win advanced the Bulldogs to a Friday matchup with Overlake, which also won its opening round game, on Friday.

Garfield got down to business early  scoring seven goals in the first, while allowing just three by Gig Harbor. The Bulldogs scored six more in the second, while the defense squeezed Harbor even tighter allowing just a single second-quarter goal.

With a 13 - 4 advantage going into the second half, Garfield managed just as single goal in the third, while Gig Harbor put three on the board to make it 14 - 7 going into the final frame.  But that would be it for Harbor, as Garfield scored three unanswered goals to close out the game and the season for Harbor.

Jackson Lanning led all scorers with seven Bulldog goals, matching the Seattle Academy junior's best scoring performance of the season.

Overlake (12-1-0, 11-1-0 in the regular season) next faces Garfield in boys quarterfinal action, Friday, May 18. Location and time of the game have not yet been determined. Ballard finishes its season with a 9-10-0 record (9-9-0 in the regular season)

Garfield (11-6-0, 10-6-0 in the regular season) next faces Overlake in Friday's quarterfinals. Gig Harbor concludes its season with a 8-6-0 record (8-5-0 in the regular season).
