2012 Underwater Music Festival Canceled Due to Lack of Funding

The 2012 Underwater Music Festival has been canceled due to lack of funding and sponsorships for the amount of people expected at the event, according to its Facebook page. Organizers hope for the event to take place next year.

The highly anticipated 2012 Underwater Music Festival is officially a no-go.

Event organizers cited lack of funding and sponsorships as a reason for them to wait and re-launch the festival until next year, according to its Facebook Page.

The event was scheduled for next Saturday, July 28, on the waters near Cutts Island.

Underwater Music Festival Organizer Sean Hensley posted the following message on the event's Facebook Page on Wednesday:

Official 2012 Update:
The 2012 Underwater Music Festival scheduled for July 28th near Cutts Island is officially Canceled.

Due to the lack of funding, sponsorships and accompanied by the increasing rate of community turn out we have chosen to pause this 2012 event to ensure a safe re-launch of this great community event in 2013. The GREAT NEWS is we partnered with a large company that will be a future Title Sponsor and has the resources to help grow this event.

We want to DISCOURAGE any independent and/or “Occupy” movements that have already formed to still have a party at Cutts Island on July 28th. We would also like to mention that Cutts Island is part of the Washington State Parks and as any natural resource should be treated with respect. Any “intoxicating parties” can have a negative and long lasting impact on the costs for future UMF events. The Pierce County Sherriff’s Office and other local law enforcement agencies will still be present.

The community’s safety and our focus on a family friendly event is our primary concern moving forward. With that, I would like to personally thank the United States Coast Guard - Sector Puget Sound Waterways Management and Pierce County Sherriff’s Office Marine Detachment personnel for your assistance helping see to these areas of the event. They have been amazing to work with.

Ugh. That's not good, Starla. How many times a week do you and husband cross, or at least try toRead More cross that crosswalk.

I have seen orange flags (like the kind you use on the boat with a water skier) used at crosswalksRead More in Redmond. Perhaps putting a PVC pipe in the ground on either side of the road or attached to the nearby sign posts with a few flags inside for you to hold out/carry to the other side when you're crossing would be helpful?

Brent, we cross it about at least once a week.
