Aging in Action

In this blog I will share articles, information, and hints on dealing with stress and finding joy in your, and your loved one's aging journey. Please feel free to ask questions and share your stories.

As an Executive Director of an Assisted Living/Retirement Living Community I have the opportunity to witness, and be a part of, many residents' "later years" and see how this part of life's journey is experienced by them and by their families.

I'm often struck by how different being a senior can look; one person at 75 can look very much like another person at 95, and someone with a myriad of health problems may seem, at first to be quite spry because of their attitude. Families can also differ in how they relate to their aging parents and the different transitions the process can bring; some families handle issues, such as memory loss, with humor and kindness seeking to learn new ways to relate to their loved ones, while other families deny any problems and therefore, end up negatively impacting the quality of life of the resident.
