Do you require your kids to write during summer break?
One of my goals this summer was to be more diligent in having my kids read and write on a daily basis - So, here we are on week one of Summer break and so far I'm succeeding in the being diligent but failing at the creative side of it. Take a peak into Nate's journal and see for yourself at my lack of creativity:
My youngest Nate-no's journal entry this weeks was: "Yesterday I was writing in this same exact journal. It was boring but I need to practice for the summer"
Someone is NOT enjoying his mothers summer goal of having them write in their journals on a daily basis – Time to find some fresh ideas to motivate my kids to not only write on a daily basis but to enjoy it. This may include NOT writing in a journal everyday but finding alternative ways to get my kids to write:
Here are my 14 fresh ideas:
1. Use journal prompts - Click here for free printable ideas.
2. Give them a box of sidewalk chalk and allow them to write sentences on the sidewalk - join in the fun with them.
3. Write letters to pen pals, relatives, or friends.
4. Use fun journals or journal cards- Click here for FREE journal card printables.
5. Start a family journal - Click here for how to begin your own family journal.
6. Encourage your child to write and “publish” a book of poems or stories to then give as gifts to relatives.
7. Have your kids write jokes or riddles out to then be read during the dinner time meal.
8. Use Mad Libs and have fun filling in the words and reading them to each other.
9. Play board games such as Boggle, Scrabble, or Upwords together.
10. Give your kids fun story starter,s have them finish the story in 50 words or less.
11. Teach your child to write the weekly shopping lists and/or dinner menu.
