Robin, I understand what you meant. Nevertheless, you used "not greedy" andRead More "Walmart" in the same context. In my time, I confronted a Walmart siting issue in Gig Harbor. My perceptions differ from yours, but I agree Walmart's prices are good. I just won't be recommending that they get any gold cups for corporate morality.
Robin Hebert May 22, 2013 at 03:32 pm
Yes Mark, but the analogy I was doing regarding Walmart was just an analogy in reference to prices.Read More Not any other policy.

Can they restructure the bonds yet? I'm sure they will as soon as the original bond covenantsRead More permit it.

Well, why not refinance? Is there a clause that prevents this?

There is no question that traffic will decline at some point due to excessive tolls. We just don'tRead More know what that point is, but how else does one explain the flat traffic volume despite population growth on this side of the bridge. One commenter pointed to the growth of retail opportunities on this side as another reason for flat traffic. I for one will shop in Port Orchard, Bremerton or Silverdale before I will cross the bridge. I recently bought a new Nissan in Bremerton instead of Tacoma even though it was a little further to go.
Maria Johnson May 22, 2013 at 08:24 am
There are fewer cars going over the bridge to pay the higher prices, which means those of us that doRead More need to cross will be paying even higher prices, which means even fewer of us will be able to afford to go over the bridge, which means those left will be paying yet higher prices.......This process is discouraging traffic, AND handcuffing low income or fixed income families.

Alright, everyone. It looks like I can't sneak anything past you. Yes, it was Dana Drive nearRead More Crescent Valley. Btw Etiene, I actually parked in the one turnaround spot going up the hill, walked toward the sign and snapped. The driver in the photo was just giving me extra space. I'm innocent :) I'll be taking other shots around town to see if I can stump you. Great job!

Dude, seriously! You parked on a narrow shoulder for a non-emergency to take a photo, forcing otherRead More cars to pass you in a no passing zone. Where's Washington State Patrol Trooper Guy Gill when you need him?

Thanks Cheri. Seldom am I "right" but, in this case I will be "rite" andRead More henceforth consider myself a Gig Harborite. Now I know.
Cheri Johnson May 22, 2013 at 09:19 am
Yeah, Joe, to truly be a local you've got to be a Gig Harborite. How lucky for this community thatRead More you decided to make it your home. C.

Akiko, you are right, Kirk Herbstreit is from Centerville. I went to the parochial high school inRead More Kettering, OH (Alter) but most of my friends went to Centerville High School. Kirk came about 12 years behind me. Athletic teams from both Centerville and Alter would compete against the Trojans from Troy on occasion.

What a story, Michelle! It's amazing to hear how it was that day. Must have been scary to liveRead More through but remarkable to recall...

I was about 12 years old. We were in Centralia so while we didn't get the brunt of the 18th blast,Read More we had continuous ash fallout and one big one about a week or so after May 18. During that one, we were backpacking the Bogachiel River on the Olympic Peninsula and started getting a fine ash fallout. We drove back home with the ash getting heavier and heavier, not knowing if we were going back home to a crater. News was very sketchy and radios weren't working well. Close to home was like driving through a gray blizzard, there was no visibility. That was a scary time as a kid, and I imagine for the adults as well. School was cancelled for the remainder of the year but we had to wear face masks for a while anytime we were outside. I can still remember the distinct smell of those masks.

Hi Paul, I understand what you are saying! I am always reluctant to use the wordRead More "authentic" in regards to food because it's a tricky one. Gets into regional and personal preferences. When I think of "authentic" Mexican cuisine, I think of some friends of mine from Mexico who would invite us to their big family celebrations. The food was fantastic. There used to be a place in Centralia that served something like what I like to think of as "authentic" Mexican food but it's been gone for yrs. There is a place in Olympia called Ramirez Mexican Store that serves food. I haven't been there but heard it's great. Any places you know more local that serve this type of cuisine?

Bernie, Thank you! Just a few days ago we spent a lazy Friday afternoon late lunch on the patio.Read More The food and service was great. A wonderful afternoon in the sun. One in my group even dared to try a Jalapeño Margarita. Wow! Not just anyone could handle that one but he loved it. Thanks for the great patio atmosphere. Can't wait to go back.

Best Mexican restaurant in the harbor hands down. The location may have moved and expanded but theRead More service has always been second to none. I have never had a problem here ever. Israel is one of the best things that Mocte's has going. Keep up the good work, food, and atmosphere.
