The park also boasts excellent camping, and most sites have views of the Puget Sound. Boaters are able to launch and moore their boats in the summertime, and many choose to fish off of the large dock. On Independence Day, fireworks light up Olympia and the western Puget Sound.</p> <p>Joemma Beach State Park was originally named John F. Kennedy State Park when it opened in 1968. In 1995, it was renamed Joemma Beach State Park, in honor of the couple who lived on the property from 1917 to 1932. It is located next to the YMCA Camp Coleman, off of Bay Road on the southwest side of Key Peninsula.</p>
