I moved to Gig Harbor from California in 1996, the year of 'the big ice storm'. My husband and I fell in love with the area while attending the wedding of a friend. I landed a job teaching math and science at Harbor Ridge Middle School until my son was born and I became a stay-at-home mom. Wine had always been a hobby and I took every opportunity to fuel that passion whether it was trips to wine country or hosting elaborate wine tasting parties. One evening after I attended a wine tasting in a small, local wine shop, the owner approached me about buying the business. My husband and I went out to dinner afterward and spent the next three hours talking me into the opportunity. The next thing I knew I was applying my business degree skills and tasting wine as a full time job. Somebody pinch me! A few years later I took on a partner and expanded the business. Two years ago I decided to sell my half of the business to my partner so I could have more time with my son.
It has long been my secret desire to combine my knowledge and joy for wine with my budding interest in writing. Yet again, an opportunity has been dropped in my lap, and I look forward to being Gig Harbor's Patch wine writer.
