Nicole Jain Capizzi grew up in Tacoma and now lives in Gig Harbor. She operates Amaranth Urban Farm in Seattle, Washington and has been making her living farming, teaching, and writing about sustainable agriculture since 2002. She has developed viable urban farm businesses in Seattle and Milwaukee and continues to redefine the place of urban agriculture within the reemerging local and sustainable business economy.

She founded the Prairie Crossing Learning Farm at the acclaimed conservation community near Chicago, Illinois and developed the MicroFarm training and demonstration program at the University of Wisconsin Extension, Milwaukee County. She holds a certificate in Ecological Horticulture from the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems (CASFS) in Santa Cruz, CA, and a BA in English Literature from the University of Washington.
