Christmas is being observed Tuesday. Here's what you need to know to get around during the week.
If you are traveling this weekend, check out the Washington State Department of Transportation web pages to plan your route. Be sure to check traffic and weather conditions along Interstate 90 at Snoqualmie Pass, US 2 at Stevens Pass, Interstate 5 near the U.S./Canadian border and I-5 between Olympia and Tacoma.
Here is a list of what’s open and what's closed:
City of Gig Harbor: Closed Monday, Dec. 24th and Tues., Dec. 25
Peninsula School District is on winter break. Classes resume Monday, Jan. 7.
Pierce County government: Closed Tuesday, Dec. 25.
US Postal Service: Closed Tuesday, Dec. 25.
Pierce County Library System is closed Monday, Dec. 24, and Tuesday, Dec. 25.
Pierce Transit: Reduced weekday service on Monday and will operate on a Sunday schedule on Tuesday. Visit the Pierce Transit website for more route information.
Sound Transit: Express buses will operate on reduced weekday schedule on Monday, Dec. 24 and there is no service on Tuesday. Tacoma Link will operate on a Sunday schedule on Monday and Tuesday. Sounder will run special event service to the 5:20 p.m. Seahawks vs. San Francisco 49ers game on Sunday, Dec. 23. State of Washington: Closed Tuesday.
Washington State Ferries: Routes will operate on revised and holiday schedules.
Federal government: Closed Tuesday.
Banks: Many, if not most, will be closed Monday and Tuesday. Check your local branch.
Gig Harbor Family YMCA: The Gig Harbor Family YMCA will be open 4:45 a.m.-3 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24, in observance of Christmas Eve, and offering a limited class schedule. Closed on Tuesday.
Garbage and Recycling: All residential and some commercial pickups will be moved back one day after Monday.
Stores: Fred Meyer is open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Christmas Eve, and closed Christmas Day. Target is open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Christmas Eve and closed Christmas Day. All Walmart stores are closed on Dec. 25. For more big-box retailer store hours, check out this article in the Huffington Post.
