Flood Watch Issued For Western Washington

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch beginning Monday for parts of Western Washington, including Pierce County.

The NWS in Seattle says a frontal system will move into the area mid- to late Monday. It could produce heavy rainfall, from 1 inch of rain in the lowlands to 2 1/2 inches in the mountains.

"Rivers are already running high from recent rainfall and the ground is saturated," the NWS posted on its website. "This round of precipitation may be heavy enough to drive some rivers over Western Washington above flood stage."

A flood watch means conditions are favorable for flooding, but it is not imminent or occurring.

The NWS warning for Western Washington is in effect until Tuesday afternoon.

Here's a look at this week's forecast for Gig Harbor.

Monday: Rain. High near 47. South southwest wind between 11 and 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent.

Monday Night: Showers. Low around 40. Southwest wind between 11 and 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent.

Tuesday: Showers. High near 49. Southwest wind between 13 and 18 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.

Tuesday Night: Showers. Low around 39. South southwest wind between 18 and 21 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.

Wednesday: Showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 48. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Wednesday Night: Showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 36. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Thursday: A chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 50. 

Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 36. 

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 53. 

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 39.
