Local Teen Receives Eagle Scout Award

Deno Borghi of Fox Island recently earned the highest advancement award from the Boy Scouts of America.

Deno Borghi of Fox Island recently earned the Eagle Scout Award, which is the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offers to Scouts. Borghi was recognized in a ceremony at the Fox Island Yacht Club on Dec. 11.

The 15-year-old member of Gig Harbor’s Troop 217 is one of approximately 4 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank. Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community, church or service project to earn his Eagle; Borghi chose to assist the U.S. Forest Service in repairing its signs by building and installing the sign at Corral Pass last September.

Borghi, who's a freshman at , has served as Senior Patrol Leader in his troop and was nominated by his peers to the Order of the Arrow Brotherhood. Borghi joins other outstanding American citizens who have become Eagle Scouts, among them former President Gerald R. Ford, Jr., astronaut Neil A. Armstrong, cinematographer Steven Spielberg and the head of the F.B.I., William Sessions.

Borghi is a member of . He also served as a legislative page for Rep. Larry Seaquist in the last legislative session in order to earn his state government merit badge. He is active in football and is an All Star Lacrosse player at Gig Harbor.

He is the son of Natasha Davis and the grandson of Charles and Michele Davis of Fox Island.
