Parkinson's Awareness Walk Scheduled For April 13 in Downtown Gig Harbor

The Gig Harbor Parkinson's Support Group says its local group members invite others to join them and learn more about Parkinson's Disease. The walk takes place along Harborview Drive to Eddon Boat Park and back to Skansie Brothers Park.

On Saturday, April 13 at 11 a.m., the Gig Harbor Parkinson's Support Group will sponsor an event at Skansie Brothers Park in downtown Gig Harbor, which will include a Parkinson's Awareness Walk along Harborview Drive to Eddon Boat Park and back to Skansie Park (about 1 mile).

Walking with supportive friends and family, local group members invite others to join them and learn more about Parkinson's Disease. At Skansie Park, a booth will be set up and representatives of the Northwest Parkinson's Foundation, the Washington Chapter of the American Parkinson's Disease Association, the Medtronic Corporation, Teva Pharmaceuticals, and the Gig Harbor YMCA will be available to answer questions and give information about Parkinson's Disease.

With over 1 percent of the U.S. population affected by Parkinson's, the local group is hopeful that this event will help raise public awareness in our community.
