Battle of the Bands Preview: Euphoria

Patch sits down with local band, Euphoria, that will be competing against two other bands at the Battle of the Bands this Saturday.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound is hosting the this Saturday, Jan. 28, and local band, Euphoria, is one of the three amateur bands performing at the inaugural event.

The group is made up of local high school students: Mickey Martin (vocals/guitar), Conor Larson (guitar), Drew Ketcham (bass) and Jim Labayen (drums).

Since forming the band last spring, Euphoria has had six live performances, including at Borders Cafe in front of nearly 70 people.

"(The audience) should expect to be blown away by our creative talent and our flowing juices," said Martin.

Come Saturday, the three bands, , 3L3R and Euphoria, will be vying for the grand prize: a 3-song demo recording session at Pacific Studios in Tacoma.

According to the contest rules, a panel of three judges will score the bands on their musical ability, crowd appeal, appearance, showmanship and professionalism.

In addition, each band is allotted 25 "groupie" tickets that the members will be able to sell at the door. Each band will be awarded four points for each of these tickets sold. For the complete rules, see the attached PDF.

Where: Jim & Carolyn Family HOPE Center and Cheney Family Boys & Girls Club, 8502 Skansie Ave.

Cost: $5 (All proceeds to benefit the Cheney Family Boys & Girls Club.)
