THIS WEEKEND: Fox Island Garden Tour, Sailboat Relaunch & More

Here are five things to do around Gig Harbor this weekend.

Where/When: Cromwell Cemetery at 2500 62nd Ave. NW on Saturday, May 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Why Go: Cromwell Cemetery, also know as the Hales Passage Scandinavian Lutheran Cemetery, will have the annual work party/potluck and general meeting this Saturday. Make sure to bring your own garden tools, especially lawn mowers of all types (riding and tractor), rakes, brooms, weeding and pruning tools, stone cleaning supplies, weed-eaters and etc. Coffee will be provided at the gate. A brief meeting and potluck lunch will follow at the Sears Farm across the street.

Cost: Free

 

Where/When: on Saturday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: Rhodies, peonies, pansies oh my! This island-wide event benefits all three non-profits on the island: FICRA, and the .  

Cost: $15

 

Where/When: Harbor Fit, 8805 N Harborview Dr Ste. 204, on Saturday, May 19, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: Come enjoy upbeat music and a little exercise while raising money for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Stop by any time and, if you want to, you could jump on a bike and get a little exercise! Bikes are suitable for participants at least 12 years of age. Harbor Fit instructors will be leading the fun. Door prizes will be awarded every half hour and refreshments will be provided by .

Cost: $10 suggested donation per person (or family).

 

 

Where/When: on Saturday, May 19, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: Learn about this explosive time of rock ‘n’ roll and how photographer Jini Dellaccio effected some of the major northwest bands of the time. Featuring three of the 1960s rock stars that Jini Dellaccio photographed: Bob Holden from Don and the Goodtimes; Jim Valley of Don & the Goodtimes and Paul Revere & the Raiders; Steve Lalor of The Daily Flash.

Cost: $7

 

Where/When: on Saturday, May 19, at 10 a.m.

Why Go: Join the at for the historic re-launch of Pirouette – the restored Thunderbird sailboat hull #2. The sailboat will float off its cradle mid to late afternoon as part of an all-day celebration. There will be plenty of maritime skill demonstrations, children’s activities, food and fun.

Where/When: on Saturday, May 19, and Sunday, May 20, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Why Go: Auditions for "The Sword in the Stone" a musical version produced by PenMet Family Theater outdoor in August. Large cast is needed for speaking/singing roles for adults and youth. Prepare a song that best shows off your voice. Readings will be provided by the director, Kathleen McGillard.

Cost: Free. Call 253-851-1630 to make appointment.
