Excessive Heat May Be Gone, But Thunder, Lightning Could Hit Region This Weekend

The National Weather Service has issued a fire weather watch alerting people that lightning could start new fires.

It could be a lightning kind of weekend in Gig Harbor and other parts of Puget Sound.

The National Weather Service has issued a fire weather watch for the region for this weekend. Temperatures won't hit 90 degrees like they did Thursday, but there is an increase chance of lightning and thunderstorms.

Tonight: Increasing clouds, with a low around 63. Southwest wind 6 to 9 mph.

Saturday: Areas of fog before 11am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Southwest wind 6 to 11 mph.

Saturday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Cloudy, with a low around 58. Southwest wind 9 to 11 mph.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 72. South southwest wind 11 to 14 mph.

Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 57.
