Strong Thunderstorms Expected in Pierce County Tuesday

The National Weather Service is predicting strong thunderstorms with possible funnel clouds and small hail in Pierce County today.

The Pierce County Alert released a statement from the National Weather Service around noon Tuesday:

"The National Weather Service has notified us that strong thunderstorms are possible across Pierce County today. Rotating thunderstorms may produce cold air funnel clouds, small hail and gusts to 45 mph. The cold and unstable air will continue through this evening. Pierce County will continue to monitor the situation and will send updates as necessary as more information is received. "

According to the National Weather Service, here's a look at the forecast for Gig Harbor peninsula this week:

This Afternoon: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 44. South southeast wind around 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Tonight: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 10pm, then a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35. South wind between 9 and 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Wednesday: Showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 43. South wind between 11 and 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Wednesday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 32. Southwest wind between 11 and 17 mph. 

Thursday: A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 43. Southwest wind between 6 and 15 mph. 

Thursday Night: A chance of rain showers before 4am, then a chance of snow showers. Snow level 900 feet lowering to 300 feet. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. 

Friday: A chance of snow showers before 10am, then a chance of rain showers between 10am and 4pm. Snow level rising to 1100 feet. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
