Best dining secret in Gig Harbor?

Marketplace Grille--Gig Harbor's secret waterfront dining.

I'm wondering if the is the best kept dining secret in Gig Harbor? Tough to tell what makes something a secret or "under rated," but I'm going to place the tag on Marketplace Grille.

When people talk about waterfront dining in Gig Harbor, The Tides and Anthony's are the two names that usually come up, and for good reason. For my family, however, our choice is the Marketplace Grille.

Whenever I go, I order the Wild Salmon Salad. Perfectly grilled salmon, and a great mixture of fresh fruits over a bed of finely shredded lettuce. Sitting right next door to Anthony's, you get the same amazing view of Gig Harbor Bay and Mt. Rainier.

Last night, my family and I were the only ones in the dining room, and we got to watch the sailboat races through the bay while we enjoyed our dinner (my wife had a turkey and avocado sandwich and our daughter had the chicken strip meal). It was a perfect evening!

In addition to the great food, reasonable prices, and fabulous view, the service is fantastic. I love locally owned and operated places, and the Marketplace Grille fits that bill.

Have you ever eaten there? I'd love to hear your thoughts. Any other dining secrets in the Harbor?

I left a comment but the computer ate it. I recommend the chowder and caesar salad for lunch. Don't even put pepper on the chowder. They know what they're doing. If you're really hungry, the fish and chips will cure it. Good food. Nice people and the view ain't bad either.

Thank you for the info, Matt! We made a last minute decision to go out for dinner (on Mother's Day) and as I had just read your post, we headed over there. I can't believe we hadn't tried it before. We got right in without reservations and had a great dinner. A++ for the view. Seafood Paella & Parmesan Seared Scallops. Everything was fresh & obviously made from scratch, just the server said. We've been looking for a place like this on the Harbor waterfront where we can take the kids, have unique food & a casual atmosphere. We'll be back soon.

Shhhh! It's supposed to be a secret! Had a really yummy halibut sandwich there on Friday! It's definitely a hidden gem with great food, service and the best view!

So glad to hear that you enjoyed it, Michelle! Sorry, Diane. I hate giving secrets but anything to help the great folks who own that place!

I loved reading this review! We discovered the Marketplace Grill a couple of years ago, when I simply Googled "The best restaurant in Gig Harbor" - we were tired of the "regular" places, and honestly, tired of being disappointed. The number one rated dining experience on Trip Advisor, is MARKETPLACE GRILLE, and has been holding that position for quite some time! We jumped in the car with a couple of friends, and headed out to give it a try. Now, everyone should be aware, this is a tiny little place - what some may call "A hole in the wall", which to me, made no difference. There are 5 small tables, the floor slopes a little bit, and there isn't much in the way of decor. Again, no difference, as we were looking for good eats! Our server, Charlene, was adorable! Her husband, Richard, does the cooking. As mentioned above, all meals are prepared fresh - made to order. Even the sauces....individualy prepared! The only items that aren't made in house are the desserts. We enjoyed a sampling of the menu - chowder (rivals my personal recipe) was AWESOME! Calamari - delicious. Paella? TO DIE FOR! Fish & Chips - yum! And I might add, it came out crisp, and the batter didn't fall off it - always a plus in my book. And beer - a great selection of domestic, micro's, and imports. We have returned many times, tried other menu items, and introduced new guests. We have NEVER been disappointed!! Go in and meet the owners, enjoy a fabulous meal and a gorgeous view!

I absolutely love the place. My favorite meal is the Jamaican Jerk Chicken. It is awesome. I especially loved that it was within walking distance of where my girlfriend and I lived. We have since moved but it is always our first restaurant of choice when we go out.
