A Few of My Favorite Gig Harbor Things

A list of 10 local menu items that keeps you coming back for more.

I sat down and made a list of my favorite “little” food items that I have discovered at restaurants here in town. You know, that one little special item that keeps you coming back. My list went on and on, but I narrowed it down to 10. These are in no particular order.

  1. Beet chips from the Gourmet Burger Shop located at 11717 SR 302 NW at the corner of 118thAve. NW, location of the former Brookside Café. They are thinly sliced beets that are fried like potato chips and seasoned perfectly. If you like sweet potato fries, you will love these. The homemade flavored aioli and other sauces take these over the top.
  2. Chicken strips at located at 3222 56thSt NW. I’ve never actually ordered these for myself, but my daughter gets them off the kids menu and I always end up talking her out of one. They are chicken breast strips that are hand breaded on site. So much better than your typical pre-made chicken strip.
  3. Corn chowder at the located at 3313 Harborview Dr. It’s rich, creamy and I crave this on a cold rainy day.
  4. Thousand Island dressing at the located at 2925 Harborview Dr. I don’t even like Thousand Island dressing! I had it on my shrimp salad once and it’s now the only kind I order when we go there. Their tartar sauce gets an honorable mention, too.
  5. The dipping oil for bread at located at 3119 Judson St. I’ve heard comments that the bread itself is nothing special, but I think that’s the point; it’s just a vehicle for getting that delicious seasoned oil into your mouth!
  6. Chips and salsa at located at 4225 Harborview Dr. The chips are thin, crispy and obviously fresh. They have a few green and red colored chips mixed in which the kids love to fight over. Served with little bowls of salsa, pico de gallo and refried beans topped with cheese. I could eat these for my dinner.
  7. Salad dressing at located at 6820 Kimball Dr. Suite A1. I don’t know what to compare it to, it’s very unique. It’s tangy and very peppery but not too heavy. I get it on the side as a dipping sauce for chicken and have even been known to pour it on my rice.
  8. Gelato and sorbet at located at 4621 Pt. Fosdick Dr. Bldg 10, Ste 200. Gelato is just like ice cream, only better. Fondi always has a good selection of flavors and one little scoop is the perfect finish to a dinner.
  9. BOB sauce at  located at 4701 Pt. Fosdick Dr. NW. It's garlicky and perfect as a dip for the sweet potatoes fries or onion rings. They use it as a sauce on several burgers.
  10. Green Eggs from located at 7806 Pioneer Way. These are scrambled eggs with pesto and Parmesan cheese mixed it. It's one of those maddening things that seem so simple but when you make it at home, it just doesn't taste the same. So I have to come back for these.

What are some of your favorite local things? Do you disagree with one of mine and have a better suggestion? I’d love to give yours a try and either have a new favorite or agree to disagree!!
