Mac N More...and More!

A mac and cheese restaurant and Procession of the Species Parade = fun and delicious!

So I’m watching Food Network and I see a feature on a restaurant that serves only mac and cheese.  Wow, what a concept!  Why didn’t I think of that?

Not even a week later, we are in Olympia for the annual Procession of the Species Parade .  As I often do, I turn to Yelp.com for inspiration for a unique place to take the family to lunch to keep up the theme of the day (you have to see the Procession of the Species Parade to understand how truly unique it is) when I find a new place in Lacey call Mac N More.  That's right, a mac and cheese restaurant!  Forget our recent switch to a healthier diet; this is just too tempting to pass up.

This place is unique, all right.  Their table tops are painted with blackboard paint and come with chalk and erasers to doodle while you wait for your food.  Unlike the one on Food Network, this restaurant serves more than just mac and cheese.  For the sake of my one child who doesn’t like pasta, I was relieved.  Click here to see their menu.

The food was very good.  The servings were generous and the mac and cheese was rich and filling.  We had a broad sampling of various menu items:  classic mac and cheese, the chicken hoagie with tarragon mayo, a meatloaf smash burger, and the cornflake-breaded chicken breast.  I neglected to get any pictures of the food because we all dove right in.  But trust me, it looked great too!

Highlights:  the crunchy garlic bread that was served with the mac and cheese, the chicken hoagie, and the juicy and flavorful meatloaf burger patty.  Disappointments:  the bland cornflake-breading on the chicken breasts and the small, cramped front counter where you place your order prior to taking a seat.  It's awkward and difficult with a large group to make sure everyone gets their order in.

We will definitely be back to try some of the other items.  I have my sights set on the Mudbug (crayfish and green onion) mac and cheese.

On our way home, we decided it was time for a new Family Cooking Challenge:  A Mac and Cheese Cook-off!  Seems we all think we make the best spin on that blue boxed mac and cheese.  We’ll just see about that…
