Gig Harbor Fire and Medic One responded to a small fire in the attic. Paramedics also assisted a a motorcyclist who was thrown off his bike after he hit a deer.

On Aug. 12, a man on a motorcycle hit a deer and was thrown from his bike. In addition to other injuries, he had a broken ankle. Medics gave him some pain medication then realigned the ankle and transported him to a hospital.

On Aug. 13, a man fell off a ladder while pressure washing a roof. He landed on his chest on top of the pressure washer. Medics transported him to the hospital for a possible broken rib.

On Aug. 14, firefighters were dispatched to a report of smoke in the woods behind the Purdy Park and Ride. The crew found a man in the woods cooking his breakfast. The man put the fire out as ordered.

On Aug. 15, a man was bitten by a dog when he leaned down into a vehicle window to talk to his friend. The dog first bit him in the cheek and then latched onto his arm. He had a five-inch laceration on his arm and a small puncture wound to the face. Medics bandaged the wound and transported him to the hospital for stitches.

On Aug. 16, a caregiver was attempting to transfer her patient from a bed to a wheelchair when the patient slipped to the floor. She was able to control the patient's fall, and there were no injuries. However, she called 911 for assistance in getting her patient up off the floor. The medic and crew assessed her for injuries and lifted the woman into her wheelchair.  

On Aug. 17, firefighters were called to a 20-foot diameter brush and grass fire that also contained garbage. They quickly extinguished the fire, which was located along the Cushman Trail. 

On Aug. 18, firefighters responded to a report of a smoke alarm sounding and smoke coming from a light fixture. Upon arrival, they found a fire in the attic, which was started by some portable lighting that had been used in the attic a few hours earlier. The lights were still hot and had been placed too close to combustible materials. Firefighters were able to save the home due to the early detection by the smoke alarm.
