Fire Blotter from March 19-25

Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One responded to a possible gas leak, while paramedics assisted a man who was experiencing severe chest pains.

On March 19, an 87-year-old woman tripped on a rug and fell in her bedroom. She was able to pull the phone down from the bedside table and call 911. Paramedics found her lying on the floor. Due to the severe pain in her right hip, she was transported to the hospital.

On March 20, a minivan struck a pickup truck head-on when the truck pulled out in front of it. The driver was uninjured, but his toddler who had been seated in the back seat in a child passenger safety seat had several abrasions from the harness system. After examination, paramedics advised the father to take his child to the doctor.

On March 21, a 66-year-old man’s employer called the Pierce County Sheriff when the man did not show up for work. Paramedics responded to the man’s home and found him working on his remodel because he thought it was Sunday. They called his daughter who agreed to see if her father was seen by a doctor.

On March 22, paramedics responded to a call to asset 67-year-old man. He told paramedics that over the past four months, he had become weaker and weaker and now was unable to get out of bed. After an on-scene evaluation, it was determined that the man be transported to the hospital.

On March 23, a 48-year-old man called 911 when he woke up with chest pain that did not go away after several hours. Paramedics monitored the man’s heart and transported him to the hospital.

On March 24, firefighters responded to a report of a smell of natural gas on 112th Street Court NW near a mailbox. Upon arrival they found a red utility gas cap missing from a pipe near the mailbox. Firefighters monitored the open pipe but did not detect a high enough level of gas in the air to be dangerous. They called Puget Sound Energy who responded to take care of the situation.

On March 25, firefighters responded to the roadway that leads into Narrows Park where it was reported that a car had hit the guard rail and was hanging over the embankment. When firefighters arrived, only the father of the driver was at the scene. They made arrangements to have the car towed and checked for any leakage. Parks department was notified about the guardrail, and the Pierce County Sheriff was notified about the collision. Firefighters controlled traffic while the car was recovered.
