EMS/Rescue: 68 

On Jan. 4, firefighters responded to an automatic fire alarm at a commercial building. They found that the alarm had been set off by sawdust while a contractor who was doing some sanding. They walked through the building to make sure there was no fire and tried to reset the alarm but could not get it to reset. They instructed the building owner to call the alarm company and have it repaired.

On Jan. 5, firefighters were called to a home with a smoke alarm sounding. The homeowner could not identify why the smoke detector was activating. The crew walked through the house and found a steamer that was situated underneath a smoke detector. After they moved the steamer, the alarm stopped and reset itself. 

On Jan. 6, firefighters were called to help an elderly woman who said that she slipped and fell in her kitchen while preparing a snack. She said she was not injured and did not want to go to the hospital. She just wanted some help getting back up. After an examination by the medic, in which he found no injuries, the crew assisted her into her chair.

On Jan. 7, medics responded to a 47-year-old male who was found by his mother, lying on the floor, unable to respond. When the crew arrived, they found the man was diabetic and started treating him immediately. When the man regained consciousness, he refused to be transported to the hospital. He said that he had mistakenly given himself too much insulin and would follow up with his own doctor. 

On Jan. 8, dispatch received a call for a woman, who was wearing only a T-shirt and was yelling, singing and banging on neighbors doors. She told the crew that she had a rare disease and was going to die. She also stated that she had died four times already since birth. Medics transported her to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

On Jan. 9, firefighters went to a residence where a man was complaining of the smell of ammonia, which was causing him to have headaches. When the crew arrived, the smell of ammonia was noticeable in the residence and much stronger in the garage. A four-gas monitor showed no unusual readings. The odor was caused by blown-in insulation that had been installed. While at the residence, the manufacturer agreed to come to the home the next day to investigate. The homeowner was advised to open the garage door and ventilate the garage and to leave the residence until the manufacturer checked on the situation. 

On Jan. 10, firefighters were called to help a woman who was being moved from her wheelchair to her vehicle by her husband. The husband said that while he was moving the wheelchair back, his wife’s clothing got caught up in the chair causing her to slide to the ground. Medics found she was uninjured from the fall, and the crew assisted her into the vehicle.
