Fire Blotter: Man Drives Through Guard Rail, Unusual Odor at a School

On Sept. 9, firefighters were dispatched to a local school for an unusual odor. The crew found that the smell was coming from a very dirty filter in the HVAC system. The firefighters changed the filter and recommended that they maintenance check the system.

On Sept. 9, firefighters responded to a call for smoke in a residence. After investigating, they found the air handler for the AC system had filters, which were completely plugged. When the crew turned off the air handler, the smell dissipated. They recommended that the unit not be used until it had been fixed.

On Sept. 10, a man swerved to avoid what he thought was an accident, drove through a guard rail and rolled his vehicle. Medics treated and transported him to the hospital for minor injuries.

On Sept. 11, a man was burning stumps in his yard when a neighbor complained of the smoke. Firefighters informed the man that there was a burn ban in effect and extinguished the fire.

On Sept. 11, a woman lost control of her motorcycle in one of the roundabouts. Medics treated and transported her to the hospital for a possible broken ankle.

On Sept. 12, firefighters responding to a smoke complaint found a man trying to burn some tall grass in his yard. The fire quickly got out of control, but he was able to put it out with a garden hose and a sprinkler. The crews checked for hot spots before returning to the station.

On Sept. 12, firefighters responded to a residence for the third time this month for a report of a house fire. After finding no signs of smoke or fire they made contact with the homeowner who said she thought she had seen flames coming from the dining room cabinets. After interviewing the homeowner, the medic decided to transport her to the hospital for evaluation.

On Sept. 13, a woman who had been experiencing weakness over the last two weeks was now unable to stand and having difficulty speaking. Medics treated and transported her to the hospital for evaluation of the cause of her symptoms.

On Sept. 14, a woman suddenly went unconscious while being evaluated by her doctor for confusion and lightheadedness. She was awake by the time medics arrived. She was transported to the hospital for further evaluation.
